Prof. Peter Brzezinski was recruited to the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics in 1998. Peter obtained a Ph.D in Physics at CTH in 1989 and after that he moved to UC San Diego where he developed techniques for studies of photosynthetic systems. In 1991 he became Assistant Professor at GU. Peter's research is focused on biophysical studies of membrane proteins involved in cellular energy conversion, which includes the use of methods such as protein reconstitution in membrane-mimetic systems, enzymatic assays, membrane protein engineering and a wide range of ultrafast time-resolved spectroscopic and electrometric techniques.

Peter is elected member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and Chairman of the Göran Gustafsson Prize Committee for Chemistry. He recently stepped down after 8 years as Executive Editor of Biochim. Biophys. Acta and he is Handling Editor of FEBS Lett. Peter is presently Dean of the Chemistry Section at Stockholm University.
