Description

The principal objective of the research performed in this section is to contribute, both nationally and internationally, to the development of a scientific basis for public health policies. To this end, studies are carried out in the following fields of research: - the measurement of patterns of morbidity and mortality in population, including changes in these patterns over time; - the identification of determinants of (trends in) morbidity and mortality. Attention is given to both medical determinants (e.g. development in medical technology, health care organisation) and social determinants (e.g. socio-economic status and environmental factors); - the identification and evaluation of possible ways for public health policies to influence patterns of morbidity and mortality.
