The rise of antibiotic resistant pathogens and the increasing danger of pandemics are prime reasons for the rapidly changing human health care landscape. As a consequence, there is an urgent need for platforms allowing the rapid identification of epitopes and large-scale production of multivalent vaccines in a fast and cost-effective way. Aim of this project is to use the Hbp autotransporter system from Escherichia coli to develop a versatile and low cost cell surface display platform for -i- the identification of epitopes and -ii- their expression on the cell surface in live bacterial vector systems for oral vaccination.
