Description

The overall objective of the programme is to study structural factors and the dynamics of work organisations in relation to health, and their consequences for the individual, the company, and society as a whole. A combination of longitudinal registry and survey data from representative and strategic samples of the working population in Sweden will be used. In addition, qualitative methods will be used to gain an increased depth of understanding of contemporary working life. The research will build and expand upon existing models, such as the Job Strain and Effort-Reward Imbalance models. Special focus will be given to outcomes in terms of sickness absenteeism and stress-related morbidity and mortality. In addition to epidemiological and qualitative studies of working life, we intend to design and evaluate structural and psychosocial intervention programmes at the organisational level. By extensive collaboration with researchers from other countries, we will be able to add an international perspective and strengthen the research by testing similar hypotheses in different data sets and cultural contexts.
