Description

In the recent report from the evaluation of undergraduate and graduate programs in Cognitive Science by the Swedish National Agency for Higher Education the evaluators suggested a national cooperation between the graduate programs in the field. We propose a national graduate school which will comprise all the universities that currently have or are about to start graduate programs in Cognitive Science including Linköping, Lund, Göteborg, Skövde, Stockholm and Umeå. The graduate school will be hosted at Linköpings University but directed by a scientific board from the participating universities. Activities include courses, graduate school conferences, intensive weeks, and extended visits to other universities. Cognitive science competence at the participating universities is complementary and graduate students benefit from being able to participate in different, but related, research environments. A national graduate graduate school may also anchor more vivid, dynamic and innovative research, a live debate on topics and issues relating to Cognitive Science, new and existing scientific networks including scientists, lecturers, students. A national research school in Cognitive Science is important to establish for the competitive international research in this highly interdisciplinary field. A stronger nationally coordinated research within the field enables Sweden to, among other things, stand out as a competent candidate for future collaborative research internationally.
