The overall objective of this project is to answer the question: How to design an optimal shift schedule that creates less problems for the individual health and family life and how this scheme differs between individuals? Previous studies have mainly been carried out at individual companies and organizations so that local influences that are specific to each workplace affect the outcome. It has therefore been impossible to generalize and draw conclusions about how an optimal shift schedule should look like. This project focuses instead on issues of good / bad shift schedules by implementing a nationwide representative cross-sectional study of good and bad shift schedules. The study includes both an inventory of existing shift schedules and focus group interviews with shift workers.
